A Message from Our Executive Director
Our members are the National Forum’s greatest asset. Their energy, creativity, and commitment to preventing heart disease and stroke were on full display at our 11th Annual Meeting held on October 9, 2013 in Washington, DC.
The day was filled with insightful speakers, thoughtful participants, and energetic discussions. While it is impossible to single out just one favorite moment, I noted a few observations:
- Every person in attendance got to have a say in the 10-year update of our nation’s Public Health Action Plan to Prevent Heart Disease and Stroke. Everyone had a voice.
- It was exciting to hear a state health commissioner say, “There’s the gem I’m taking home,” while listening to a presentation.
- At one table, there were leaders from a health plan, public health law, the pharmaceutical industry, and academia exchanging views on how the country can battle heart disease.
- The buzz at the Annual Meeting was that there was too much content, too many fabulous speakers, and not enough time.
We would like to thank the Kaiser Family Foundation for hosting the Annual Meeting at the Barbara Jordan Conference Center as well as Edelman for hosting the Annual Business Meeting and Board of Directors Meeting at their offices. We would also like to thank this year’s sponsors: AstraZeneca, Daiichi-Sankyo, Novartis, Boston Scientific’s Close the Gap program, and the American Heart Association. Finally, we would like to thank all of you who participated in this year’s meeting. It is because of you our meeting was a success!
Thank you again, and we’ll see you at our 2014 Annual Meeting!
