The U.S. Senate confirmed Robert Califf, M.D. as Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, in a vote of 89 to 4, today. The National Forum for Heart Disease & Stroke Prevention congratulates Dr. Califf on his confirmation.
“Dr. Califf is a recognized leader in the cardiology field and has played an important role in advancing emerging areas of cardiovascular disease research. We expect this leadership will continue in his new role as F.D.A commissioner and look forward to working with him and the F.D.A. to advance the ABCS of heart disease and stroke prevention,” John M. Clymer, executive director for the National Forum for Heart Disease & Stroke Prevention.
Dr. Califf is involved in the F.D.A-National Forum five-year cooperative agreement. The agreement is the first-of-its-kind cooperative public education program to reduce the burdens of heart disease and stroke.
