Statement by John M. Clymer, Executive Director, on the nomination of Jerome M. Adams, MD, MPH as U.S. Surgeon General of the United States:

Based on my interactions with Dr. Adams related to the Million Hearts initiative, I am optimistic that he will be an excellent Surgeon General. His personal engagement indicates a real commitment to preventing heart attacks and strokes and other chronic diseases.

Dr. Adams gets the difference between health and healthcare. He understands that community is where we can solve the biggest health challenges in ways that will last and cost the least.

His range of experience as a practicing physician, public health official and community volunteer should serve him well as the “nation’s doctor” and face of public health in the U.S.
