  • « National Health Council/Duke Margolis webinar: Evaluating the Quality of Real-World Evidence
  • AcademyHealth National Health Policy Conference Session: If the NIH Funds the Research, Should There Be a “Government Discount” »
Join the Alliance for Aging Research and the American Heart Association on Tuesday, February 16th at 1 PM for a discussion with Dr. Gary Gibbons, Director of the National Institutes of Health’s National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), and Dr. Frank Evans, Program Director in NHLBI’s Heart Development and Structural Diseases Branch. Dr. Gibbons and Dr. Evans are accepting the Heart Valve Disease Awareness Day Patient-Centered Heart Valve Disease Research Award on behalf of NHLBI. Join this exceptional line-up for a great conversation about heart valve disease, the importance of patient-centered research, barriers to care, and NHLBI’s critically-important work during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Under the direction of Dr. Evans, the NHLBI convened a Working Group on Patient-Centered Research in Valvular Heart Disease in July 2019 at the NIH. The working group was chaired by cardiologist Dr. Catherine Otto from the University of Washington, who is recognized internationally as an expert in heart valve disease, Marfan syndrome and other inherited structural heart conditions. Dr. Brian Lindman from Vanderbilt University led efforts to draft what became an open access summary in the April 24, 2020 issue of the Journal of the American Heart Association meant for researchers, clinicians, policymakers, the general public, and patient interest groups. You can read the report here: https://www.ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/JAHA.119.015975
