Nonprofit receives recognition for contributions to the practice of pharmacy
The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) chose the National Forum for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention as just the second nonprofit to receive APhA’s prestigious H.A.B. Dunning Award in the 40-year history of the award.
Named for former APhA leader, pharmacist, and pharmaceutical industry executive Henry Armitt Brown Dunning, the award recognizes the National Forum’s contributions to improving access to pharmacist care. APhA recognized the National Forum earlier this year at its Annual Meeting and Exposition in Orlando, Florida.
“The National Forum is deeply honored to receive this recognition from APhA because it is an organization we greatly respect,” said John M. Clymer, executive director of the National Forum. “It’s a testament to the National Forum’s impact, through collaboration, on improving patient care, cardiovascular health and health outcomes.”
The National Forum leads a multi-sector collaborative effort that developed consensus policy recommendations to enhance people’s access to pharmacist care. Since 2021, 32 states have enacted 75 policies aligned with the collaborative’s recommendations. The policies improve equitable access to healthcare.
In 2023, the National Forum mobilized a network of clinicians and mayors to speak out on the crucial role of independent community pharmacies in providing patient-centered, team-based care and tailored services proven to reduce cardiovascular health risk factors and improve health outcomes.
“While we’ve made progress, there is still much work to do,” Clymer said. “We will continue working towards advancing policy and system changes that improve health outcomes for Americans.”
