MWTM Spring Newsletter
June 8th, 2023
Congratulations on completing the Challenge by focusing on physical activity in your community! For the past month and a half, we have seen cities engage in local partnerships, bring their cities together with fun events, and lead residents to live healthier, happier lives.
More than 30 cities participated during the Spring Challenge, hosting 80+ events! That’s incredible! We’ve tracked events that you’ve tagged on social media with #MoveWithTheMayor, or if you’ve submitted pictures to us. If you didn’t tag us on social media or have events for which you have not yet submitted pictures, please submit your photos and details (e.g., date and type of activity) so that we can count you in and celebrate you!
Congratulations to all of the MWTM cities for hosting events! We want to cheer on Mayors Alfred Mae Drakeford (Camden, SC) and Gregory Mills (Brighton, CO)for hosting “Kids to Parks Day” events; Mayor Ruben Pineda (West Chicago, IL) for partnering with parkrun at Cornerstone Lakes to walk with residents; Village President Vicki Scaman (Oak Park, IL) for promoting an all-ages African dance class; Mayor Kim Norton (Rochester, MN) for getting outdoors and hosting FreshAir Fitness; Mayor Katrina Thompson (Broadview, IL) for moving alongside city partners, including the police department and local fitness company for a bike registration/riding, hula-hooping, and dance event; Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome (Baton Rouge, LA) for line dancing with the community; Mayor Matt Tuerk (Allentown, PA) for hosting the 1st annual group run at the United States Conference of Mayors Annual Meeting; and Mayor Rochelle Robinson (Douglasville, GA) for walking from the office into the city!
