The National Forum for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention presented comments to the Office of Management and Budget in support of expanding Medicare coverage for anti-obesity medications (AOMs).
John Clymer, executive director of the National Forum, emphasized that obesity is a complex, chronic disease and urged policymakers to treat it as seriously as other long-term health conditions. Including anti-obesity medications (AOMs) in Medicare coverage is critical to improving health outcomes and reducing long-term healthcare costs.
This will help close persistent gaps in treatment access, especially in rural communities and areas with limited healthcare resources.
The National Forum underscored that access to AOMs can save billions in federal spending while helping millions of Americans prevent heart disease, diabetes, and other chronic illnesses.
